Frequently Asked Questions

WHO RUNS TRAINING?

The GOAT Factory training is designed and run by Coach Collin McCollough, Director of Media & Innovation at Indy Premier.

I have been coaching and training with Indy Premier since 2012, working with all age groups and genders across both the Rec Plus and Travel programs. I primarily coach U17 boys travel, and am excited to join Premier Soccer Academy as a staff trainer this year as well!

During my time at Indy Premier, I was also previously employed at Bleacher Report and TNT Sports for 14 years, ultimately holding a Vice President position. I opted to exit the company to further pursue my passion of coaching in a full-time position. While employed full-time, in addition to my hands-on training and coach experience, I obtained my USSF National E & D license certifications — no easy time commitment or feat when balancing a day job! I plan to pursue my USSF C license as soon as possible.

I take pride in not only our results, but our accessibility and community. Training is offered to all interested players. While groups may be strategically constructed, my belief is that recreational or beginner-level players who want to pursue training should receive the same intentional instruction as any more advanced player.

Finally, I believe that training should ultimately be FUN. Yes, there is specific methodology behind my training. Yes, players will receive detailed instruction. But you’ll find our training is often competitive and gamified as well. After all: if players are seeking additional opportunities, we want them to want to return!

WHAT DOES YOUR TRAINING FOCUS ON?

We focus on a combination of technical skill-building and reactive intelligence training through cutting-edge technology. Each week focuses on singular topic: lateral skill wins, vertical skill wins, turning on the ball, control out of the air, transition defending, shooting and finishing and scanning to pass as some of a few representative examples.

What separates The GOAT Factory from many other training opportunities is its emphasis on scanning, scoring and decision-making. While there is nothing wrong with training with minimal equipment, you’ll often find my training invests in advanced equipment which allows me to record objective data on player performance … in addition to making training more exciting!

Consequentially, The GOAT Factory training re-invests itself in more training. A percentage of player fees are always re-invested in new or additional training equipment, ensuring that we can continue to evolve our programming.

HOW LONG IS A TRAINING SESSION?

Depending on the group size and season, training sessions will last between 60-90 minutes. Field usage, and thus training time, is always subject to calendar availability, and variable throughout the year.

Each group trains once per week.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The current training registration fee is $200 per month per player.

Relative to many trainers who charge anywhere between $75-150 per hour, this figure represents a cost of roughly $50 per session!

Please note: registration fees are due on a monthly basis, in advance of the first training session of each month. Families are not obligated to continue training any successive month. I find upfront fees encourage more consistent attendance — which is healthier for the group dynamic — and help me better budget the overall training program.

HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE IN EACH GROUP?

Groups are typically organized to roster between 4-10 players, to ensure attention to detail with each player. Some exceptions may be made where a different group size benefits all players. I will not assign more than 12 players to any group.

WHY SMALL GROUP TRAINING? / DO YoU OFFER PRIVATE TRAINING?

You can always contact me to ask about private training, but I typically prefer small group dynamics. I find the inclusion of multiple players actually allows for more efficient sessions where players have more touches on the ball than they would in a 1:1 training environment. This is often due to our emphasis on activities designed around scanning and decision-making; we need other players to unlock our abilities to pass, drive at defenders, defend attackers on and off the ball, etc.

HOW ARE GROUPS ORGANIZED?

The primary consideration is player age. Players of the same or similar birth years will be grouped together. Some exceptions may be made for players who would benefit from training with an older group, but those will always be proven and discussed scenarios, versus assumed at intake.

The secondary consideration is experience. If I have two groups of similar ages, I prefer to balance them as much as possible, while allowing that some group dynamics will benefit from partnering club or high school teammates.

Player requests will be considered, but not guaranteed.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Visit the Contact form to inquire about available training spots.

I will be in contact to advise of whether or not there is a group fit for the player, and direct families to download the SportsYou app.

Each month, there will be a new sign-up code for each group in SportsYou. I will communicate any training updates through that app.

WHEN DO YOU TRAIN?

Training availability varies seasonally, and based on my club responsibilities.

Typically, I will offer Friday afternoon/evening training. I may also offer additional evening or weekend training, all subject to schedule and availability.

Please note: winter facility space is at a premium. Training availability may be more limited between the months of November and February.

WHERE DO YOU TRAIN?

Facility usage varies seasonally and per topic, but we will typically train out of the Washington Business Park indoor facility.

We may also train out of the Trinity Sports Park indoor or outdoor facilities, New Hope or Hamilton Southeastern Plateau fields. You may find field maps here.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL SESSION LOOK LIKE?

Players will typically arrive 10-15 minutes prior to session start, so they may organize their equipment and take a few free touches as we assemble group quorum.

We will usually begin with an off-ball dynamic warmup. Where possible, we make this a competitive activity.

After our off-ball warmup, we are typically on-ball the remainder of our training session. While the exact structure will vary per topic, players can expect to participate in 3-5 on-ball activities per week, building from a 1:1 player-to-ball ratio into various group competitions.

At the conclusion of each training session, players will be expected to assist in “packing up” our training equipment. I will award a GOAT to the standout player(s) from each training session!

CAN I WATCH A TRAINING SESSION?

Sure! Families are welcome to stay and watch any training session.

Additionally, I post much of our training work to our social platforms, particularly Instagram Stories. You may follow us on social to view much of our training work.

I DON’T PLAY FOR INDY PREMIER; CAN I STILL TRAIN WITH YOU?

Absolutely! While many of my clients play for Indy Premier, some play for other clubs, and some don’t play for any clubs at all (often opting to only play for high school programs, in those instances).

The GOAT Factory is not affiliated with any one club!

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND POLICY?

Monthly registration grants players access to at least 4 training sessions per month. Training fees are due upfront.

In the rare and unforeseeable event weather, field closure, trainer illness or emergency forces cancelation of a training session, every effort will be made to re-schedule that training opportunity within the month. I cannot guarantee the re-schedule will work for all calendars.

If I cannot re-schedule a training session within that month, a $50 refund will be issued per player who has paid the monthly registration fee.

WHAT DO I WEAR/BRING TO TRAINING?

Whatever you’re comfortable running and sweating in!

Players do not need to wear club training attire, though are welcome to do so. Players should consider weather appropriateness, bringing extra water to warmer training sessions, and extra layers to colder training sessions.

Players are expected to bring shin guards and a soccer ball to each training session. Any player who does not have shin guards will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities.

DO yoU OFFER ANythING BESIDES TRAINING?

Yes! I firmly believe that building community matters just as much as building successful soccer players. Consequently, my training groups often have access to “bonus” events throughout the year. Highlights typically include mini-tournaments (with prizes!) that often coincide with school holiday breaks, bubble soccer, and occasional off-field gatherings coordinated with families.
